Background

The Santa Fe pipeline was originally part of an old 130-mile defunct pipeline built in 1949 from San Juan Basin, Cuba to Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico, United States. Most of the original pipeline was decommissioned in the 1960s. In 1999, New Mexico Gas Co. took over and began operations in 36 miles of the pipeline.[5] The Santa Fe Mainline looping project involves installing a new 20-inch pipeline along the existing 12-inch pipeline route.[6] The pipeline was built to extend service to customers in northern New Mexico, including tribal lands.[4] Construction began in May 2020[2], and the pipeline went into service in February 2021.[1][4]
