Project-level coal details

  • Permit(s): Environmental Clearance; Environmental Clearance Extension: 2021-06-03[1]

Background

The Satna Cement Plant power station originally received Environmental Clearance for a 35 MW captive power station in August 2013.[4][5] In May 2020, the plant owner, Birla Corporation, applied for an extension of validity of the project's Environmental Clearance and was granted the extension on June 3, 2021.[6]

Reports in 2021 and 2023 indicated that the Satna Cement Plant included a captive 27 MW thermal power unit, but it was unclear whether this unit had been built in lieu of the 35 MW coal-fired unit or if it referred to a separate, pre-existing unit.[7][8]
