Background on Mine

The proposed Sayang Coal Mine Project is an opencast mine spread over a mining lease area of 1009 ha is spread over the Raigarh and Korba districts of Chhatisgarh State, India. The project was allotted to AES Chhattisgarh Energy Pvt. Ltd. for its proposed 1200 MW thermal power plant located at village Khamhar and Bhojpur, Tehsil Dharmjaygarh, District, Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.[1] However, the project was cancelled by the Supreme Court as part of the 214 coal mines cancelled in the Coalgate scam in 2014.

The project is currently listed for reallocation by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India.[2]
