Background

The Sepetiba Bay FSRU is an LNG import and regasification unit that was deployed in 2022 to supply fuel to four floating power stations (Karkey I and II, and Porsud I and II) in the Bay of Sepetiba off the coast of southeastern Brazil.[4] The temporary power stations were rapidly deployed following a 2021 special energy auction designed to meet a shortfall in hydroelectric generation resulting from Brazil's prolonged drought.[4][5] Test operations at the FSRU began In October 2022; the FSRU and associated power stations were expected to remain in operation through December 2025.[1] The FSRU is owned by KARMOL, a joint venture between Karpowership and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.[1]
