Serbia-North Macedonia Interconnector Pipeline (Гасовод интерконектор Србија – Северна Македонијаis) is a proposed gas pipeline which would run from North Macedonia to Serbia.[1]
Location
The pipeline would run from Sopot to Klechovce in North Macedonia to Vranje, Serbia.[2][3]

Background
A memorandum of understanding between Macedonia and Serbia for the construction of the pipeline was signed in 2016.[7]
The Project Code in the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) 2018 TYNDP is TRA-N-965.[8] As of August 2020, according to Energy Community, the main design of the project is expected to be completed by 2021 and construction by 2022.[8]
In its 2020-2029 network development plan, Transportgas Srbija LLC Novi Sad stated that the project was proposed as a 70.7 km long pipeline with a diameter of 300 mm.[9]
However, as of September 2021, Energy Community states that the "Feasibility Assessment, ESIA/EIA and Design Studies" are expected to take place for the project between 2022 and 2023.[6]
"TRA-N-965" is not listed in the ENTSOG 2020 TYNDP[10] nor is any similar interconnector shown on the ENTSOG 2020 TYNDP Transmission map.[11]
The project began a feasibility study which had not concluded by the originally stated start date. In July 2025 a memorandum of understanding between Serbia and North Macedonia reaffirming their commitment to the project.[1]
Earlier proposals specified diameters of 500mm and 300mm for the North Macedonian and Serbia sections respectively, however, the most recent reports only reference a 500mm pipeline.[4] [7]
The project is almost entirely financed by European Union institutions. By 2025 the Western Balkans Investment Framework had provided grants of € 1,726,691, up from €960,000 which had been granted by 2022. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a loan of €28.84 (US$32.87 million).[5][12]
Among the stated aims of the project are to increase the use of natural gas in Macedonia and to diversify the countries energy supply. Currently natural gas is imported from Russia through a single entry point on the Bulgarian border.[5]
