Background

The Seyitomer coal mine is an opencast mine, operated by Celikler Insaat, producing 8 million tonnes per annum, in Eynez, near Seyitomer, Kutahya Province, Turkey.[3] The Seyitomer coal mine was established in 1960 with 600 thousand tons a year production capacity. Between 1963 and 1968 the mine's capacity was increased to 2 million tons. After the Seyitömer power station was opened in 1973, the mine was rebuilt to produce 7 million tons to feed the plant. In 2012, the Seyitömer mine's ownership was transferred from Turkiye Komur lsletmesi Kurumu or TKI to EÜAŞ which already owned and operated the Seyitömer plant.[4] In 2013, the operating rights of both the plant and the mine were awarded to Çelikler Holding through a tender.[5] In 2014, Çelikler Holding declared that the mine was producing 6 million tons a year.[6]

In 2012, TKI stated that the mines had a reserve of 176 million tons.[7]
