Background

China Huaneng has been permitted to build a 2 x 350 MW supercritical co-generation coal plant in the Economic Development District of Weinan, a prefecture-level city in Shaanxi.[1]

The project is under construction and planned for operation in 2018,[2][3] later pushed to 2019.[4]

Unit 1 was commissioned in April 2020.[5] Unit 2 was commissioned in September 2020.[6]

According to BJX, the project has a maximum heating area of nearly 13 million square meters, covering parts of Weinan's high-tech zone and economic development zone, and projected to "meet the winter heating needs of 70% of the residents in Weinan's downtown area".[7]
