Background

Shang'an power station is a six-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,540 MW in Hebei Province built between 1990 and 2008. The plant is owned by China Huaneng. [1]Units 5 and 6 are the first 600 MW supercritical units in China to use air cooling rather than water cooling.[2] [3]

Capacity replacement project

An additional 2 x 660 is proposed at the site, and referred to as 华能上安电厂等容量替代热电联产项目.[4]

In December 2023, with no apparent news in two years, the proposed Unit 7 and Unit 8 were presumed to be shelved.
