Background on Project
CPI proposed a 2 x 1,000 MW coal plant for Quanjiajing.[7]
Jiangxi Provincial Department of Environmental Protection was considering approving the project's EIA in May 2017.[8]
The project appeared in the Jiangxi Province Development Plan of the Railway Economic Belt (2019-2025).[9]
By September 2022, the power station was permitted.[10]
Both units are operational. In 2023, the project began construction, and in 2024, the first concrete was poured.[11] In 2025 and 2026, the project progressed through various milestones, with Unit 1 commissioned in early 2026 and Unit 2 following in March 2026.[12][13]
Coal source
The plant's coal source would be from the Shanxi Pingshuo Mine area, the Shaanxi Shenfu Dongsheng Mine area, and the Shanxi Datong Mine area. The coal will be transported by train to Qinhuangdao Port or Huanghua Port, then transported by ship to Fujian Fuzhou Port or Zhejiang Wenzhou Port, and then transported by train again to the power plant site.[8]
Ownership
In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[14]
