Shenmu power station (神华神东电力店塔电厂) is an operating power station of at least 1590-megawatts (MW) in Dianta Town, Shenmu, Yulin, Shaanxi, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 店塔电厂 (Unit 2-1, Unit 2-2), Shenhua Dianta power station.

Background
The original power station (Shenhua Shenmu-1 power station) consisted of two 12 MW units (phase I) and two 25 MW units (phase II), now all retired. Shenhua Shenmu-2 consisted of a 100 MW and 110 MW unit commissioned in 2000. It was originally owned by Shenhua Group.[2][3]
Unit 2-1 and 2-2 were retired in 2017-2018.[4] [5]
Proposed expansion
In 2010 construction began on two 660 MW supercritical units, to replace the old, small units. Construction was halted in 2012 by environmental authorities.[6][7][8]
The proposed units were permitted in 2015,[2][3] and commissioned in December 2015.[9][10]
In 2024 and 2025, Shenmu power station was developing a plan for another replacement project, including a feasibility study and early-stage government approvals for two 660 MW units.[11][12] A preliminary feasibility study contract was awarded in March 2025.[13]
Unit 3‑3 is in pre‑permit development, and Units 2‑3 and 2‑4 have been added. In 2024, the EIA for the 1×660MW expansion was posted.[14]
In 2025, the 2×660MW project was officially recognized by the local government, and a feasibility study was conducted, but no construction news was reported by 2026.[15][16]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[17][18] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[19]
