Background
The station was once called Dongguan Weimei power station and operated with oil fuel.[16]
The first-phase (Unit 1-1 and 1-2) of Shennan Power Dongguan Gaobu Natural Gas power station project (深南电东莞高埗天然气电厂)was completed in 2006, and it only began normal operation after receiving approval from the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission on January 14, 2016. [17]The power generation fuel used is clean energy, LNG natural gas.[18]
The second phase(Unit 2-1 and 2-2) of the project officially started construction on November 28, 2022. It is expected to commence operation in the first half of 2024.[19]
