Background
Oglethorpe Power is planning construction of a new combined-cycle gas plant in Monroe County, Georgia, using GE Vernova’s 7HA.03 gas turbine technology. The project includes two gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and steam turbines. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025, with commercial operation targeted for 2029. The total cost is estimated at USD 2 billion. The new plant will be built next to the Smarr energy center, an existing plant operated by Oglethorpe Power.[1][6]
