Smith Power Station Unit 1

From Global Energy Monitor

Smith Power Station Unit 1 is a proposed coal plant in Winchester (Clark County), Kentucky.[1]

East Kentucky Power Cooperative plans to build a 278 MW circulating fluidized bed process coal plant in Clark County, Kentucky. The plant is identical to Spurlock Unit 4. In May 2007, the Kentucky Public Service Commission approved the unit, along with Spurlock Unit 4. The Sierra Club appealed this decision, arguing that a lower sulfur dioxide level should be required. [2] The plant is still awaiting an air permit from EPA Region IV, which EKPC expects to be issued in Spring 2008. Construction is expected to begin Dec. 2008.<ref>Community Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes, East Kentucky Power Cooperative website, September 17, 2007
