Background

The South Valley Cement Plant opened in 2008, with the capacity to produce up to 1.5 million tonnes of cement annually. Upgrades were planned as early as 2015, but as of January 2026, the production capacity remained at 1.5 million tonnes, with plans to increase it to 2 million tonnes following a capital increase.
