Background

The new combined cycle power plant, according to a 2020 non-technical summary, is being built to be able to operate in either an open cycle gas turbine or a combined cycle unit. The steam turbine which would allow the unit to function as a combined cycle unit is expected to be constructed the year following the completion of the gas turbine.[1]

Calenia Energia started the Environmental Impact Assessment process, according to the Ministero Della Transizione Ecologica, in August 2020. As of November 2021, it has not yet been completed. [2]
