Background

The new combined cycle power plant, according to a 2020 non-technical summary, is being built to be able to operate in either an open cycle gas turbine or a combined cycle unit. The steam turbine which would allow the unit to function as a combined cycle unit is expected to be constructed the year following the completion of the gas turbine.[10]

Calenia Energia started the Environmental Impact Assessment process, according to the Ministero Della Transizione Ecologica, in August 2020. As of November 2021, it has not yet been completed. [11]

The development of this plant has been protested by grassroots activist organizations in Italy, notably the Spazio Association Cales.[12] As of Oct, 2022, the project is presumed shelved due to a lack of development since 2020.
