Background
Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT are considering a proposal to develop a 5 mtpa FSRU LNG import project that would deliver gas to the proposed 1400-MW Surat Thani power station in Surat Thani's Phunphin district. This project replaces EGAT's prior proposal to develop the Gulf of Thailand FSRU project.[1]
According to the EGAT 2023 Annual Report, Surat Thani power station was a project actively seeking approval from the Cabinet.[2]
As of August 2025, there have been no project updates in over two years, and the project is inferred to be shelved. As of this time, the Global Oil and Gas Plant Tracker (GOGPT) found that some of the the Surat Thani power station units were still actively in development.
