Background

Siemens Project Ventures, Tessenderlo Group and Advanced Power created a joint venture, T-Power, in 2005 to create a privately funded power plant. Commercial operations began at this power plant in 2011. T-Power's Beringen power station is under a tolling agreement with RWE group, meaning RWE provides the fuel and offtakes the electricity the power station.[8] That agreement extends through 2026.[9]

In 2018 Tessenderlo Group acquired shares in T-Power from Siemens Project Ventures GmbH, TG Europower bv (Tokyo Gas) and Power Kestrel Limited (Itochu Corporation), making T-Power 100% owned by Tessenderlo Group.[10]

RWE is listed Access Responsible Party for the power plant, according to Elia, the transmission system operator.[11]

Luc Tack, who owns a majority of the voting rights in Tessenderlo, reportedly advanced plans in September 2020 for T-Power to build a second gas-fired power plant at the same site as the current operating unit. The goal, as of 2020, was to complete the project by 2025, by the time Belgium retires it Nuclear plants.[12] S&P Global reported in April 2021 that T-Power had proposed a 900 MW power plant at the site.[13]
