Ownership Tree

This ownership tree is part of the Global Energy Ownership Tracker, a project of Global Energy Monitor.

Background

Units 1-2 of the power station, totaling 270 MW, were commissioned in 2003 and retired in 2014. Units 3-6 have a total capacity of 1,300 MW, and were commissioned between 2004 and 2005. The plant is owned by GCL-Poly Energy Holdings and China Resources.[1][2]

On 20 January 2025, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission released a ranking of the preferred coal-fired power projects in Jiangsu Province for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, which included eight coal-fired power projects. The Taicanggang power station Unit 7 and 8 expansion project was among them[3].

The environmental impact assessment (EIA) notice for Unit 7 and 8 was published in March 2025[4]. Although there had been no news about receiving permission to build, as it is one of the key coal power projects, bidding for equipment was active throughout 2025[5][6][7][8].
