Background on Mine

The Talaipalli coal mine Project of 18 MTPA OC and 0.72 MTPA of UG capacity on a mining lease area of 2349.35 ha operated by National Thermal Power Corporation Limited is located in Tehsil Gharghoda, District Raigarh, State Chhattisgarh, India. The mine was allocated to NTPC for its captive plant Lara Super Thermal Power Project of 4800 MW and the environment clearance granted for its development on 2 January, 2013. [5]

The coal mine was cancelled by the Supreme Court on 24 September 2014 in the wake of coalgate scandal[6] and reallocated to NTPC on 28 October 2015.[5]
