Background

Taldinskaya-Yuzhnaya Coal Mine (шахта Талдинская-Южная) is an underground mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. [4]

The Taldinskaya-Yuznaya Coal Mine is owned and operated by Shaktoupravelniye Taldinskoe-Yuzhnoye JSC, which is owned by Taldinskaya Mining Company.

The mine's history dates back to 1996, but it only became operational in 2009.[5] With the creation of Taldinskaya Mining Company in early 2015, significant investments were made in the modernization and technical re-equipment, totalling RUB 8 billion (ca USD 117 million at 2022 exchange rate). Funds were used to purchase modern tunnelling machines, a new conveyor belt and new cleaning systems.[5]

In 2021 the mine produced record 2.4 million tonnes while previous production levels ranged from 0.6-1.4 million tonnes per year.[4] From 2022 onwards, the mine's capacity is 3 million tonnes per annum.[5] In 2022 production increased to 2.8 million tonnes.[5]

Coal is delivered to large Russian metallurgical companies such as Severstal, Mechel, MMK, Koks and others. It is also supplied to China and South Korea. Coal is transhipped in the Western direction through the Commercial Sea Port of Vysotsk, in the Eastern direction through the seaports of the Far East.[6]
