Background

Taldinskaya-Zapadnaya 2 coal mine (шахта Талдинская-Западная 2) is an underground mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.[4] The Taldinskaya-Zapadnaya 2 coal mine is operated by SUEK Kuzbass, a subsidiary of SUEK.

It was commissioned in 2001, initially its production level was only 500 thousand tonnes, but then it has grown to 3 Mtpa.[5]

In 2017 USD 40 million was invested in a new longwall in Taldinskaya-Zapadnaya 2.[6] The longwall was commissioned in November 2021.[7]

As of 2020, most of the coal produced by SUEK Kuzbass was supplied to power generating companies in Europe and Asia. In the Kemerovo region, SUEK provides heat and power to the cities of Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk, the towns of Belovo and Myski.[8]

Information on historical production of the mine is very limited. Over the 6 months of 2022, the mine produced 1.3 million tonnes, increasing the production 13 times compared with 'low' 2021 numbers, following the commissioning of the longwall № 69 with 7 Mt of reserves in the end of the year.[9] Total reserves in the longwall 69 were estimated at 34 Mt, which should be sufficient for 9 years at an average annual production of 4 million tonnes.[9]

2022 production reached 2.8 million tonnes of coal.[10]
