Background

Enel's Taltal power station consists of two natural-gas fired units powered by gas turbines.[8][9] In 2017, Chilean regulators approved the construction of a 130 MW steam turbine unit that would have converted Taltal into a combined cycle plant.[10] However, as of April 2022 the proposed combined cycle unit is no longer mentioned on Enel's website[8] or the Generadoras de Chile website[11], and there has been only minimal news coverage of the proposed expansion in the past four years[12], so it is presumed to be cancelled.
