Background
Associated Electric Cooperative plans to build the Turney Energy Center near Turney, Missouri, to support the energy needs of its members across the region. The facility is designed to deliver a net output of 420 to 445 MW and will operate as a gas peaking plant — meaning it will run on an as-needed basis during periods of high electricity demand. The site, located about 3 miles southwest of Turney in Clinton County, Missouri, is currently undergoing final permitting and environmental studies. The unit will have the flexibility to use fuel oil and blend up to 30% hydrogen. Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and take approximately two years to complete. The estimated total project cost USD 520 million.[2]
