Background

In 2016, it was reported that the gas pipeline which runs through the community in Ukanafun to Calabar, Cross River State, exploded at Asang Community High School in the area, killing more than 28 people and causing massive destruction rendering the land unproductive. Following this explosion, affected the Obotim Nsit community in Nsit Ibom local government in Akwa Ibom State requested N7.6 billion from the Seven Energy Company, an oil servicing firm as compensation[1] [2][3]
