Background

As per news reports from October 2024, a nuclear power plant was planned to be built near the city of Sharypovo by 2037. The Kholmogorsk nuclear plant was supposed to become the largest of those operating in Russia.[2] However, the nuclear power plant disappeared from the general plan and instead, the 'General Scheme of Power sector development up to 2042' released in November 2024 listed the planned construction of a a new coal-fired thermal power plant in the energy systems of Krasnoyarsk Krai.[3]
