Background

As of July 2021, the Porto Norte Fluminense power station and the associated Porto Norte Fluminense LNG Terminal continued to be listed as active projects by the Brazilian government, with an estimated start-up date of 2027.[3]

In October 2021, the municipal government of São Francisco de Itabapoana held a public hearing to review the environmental impact report for the power plant.[4]

As of November 2021, the plant's application for the first of three required environmental licenses was under scrutiny by the Rio de Janeiro state agency INEA (Instituto Estadual do Ambiente).[5][6]

In May 2022, the state government issued a preliminary license for the Norte Fluminense power station, valid for five years from the date of issue.[7]
