- Coal source(s): 70% indigenous, 30% imported
Background
According to a 2013 Executive Summary of the project, Vemavaram power station would require 700 acres of land, which are currently private lands held by large families. The coal source would be based on a 70:30 ratio of domestic and imported coal dependent on supply from Coal India; if supply is not available, all coal would be imported. Water for the project would be sourced from the sea and a desalination plant.[1]
In 2013, it was reported that the company had put a hold on the project due to non-availability of funds from the government. As of October 2016, three years have passed since the hold was placed on the project and it appears to be abandoned.[2]
