Background
In July 2024, Vulcan Mozambique held a groundbreaking ceremony for a 300 MW power station as part of its “waste to energy” project at the Moatize Coal Mine. The proposed power station was expected to run on coal waste from the mine and power the mine’s operations and “local communities.”[1]
A September 2024 presentation by Vulcan Mozambique included the proposed power station in a section on “Green Initiatives” and noted that the plant would use “coal rejects.”[2]
