Description
The LNG terminal planned to include an FSU, a regasification facility, and a 12.7km gas pipeline from the port to the proposed Nathaniel Maxuilili Power Plant.[3] It would have handled both imports and exports. The project was originally planned to be operational by mid-2019.[1] There were no development updates after 2015.
In November 2024, Reuters reported that Namibia had encountered an unexpectedly high percentage of gas in offshore oil fields. As a result, the country was in talks with operators to "agree on a single plan with common infrastructure" for the gas infrastructure. The plan involved revamping the gas-fired power plant idea, with significant upscaling to handle the large amount of gas found offshore.[4]
This update indicates the original proposal is cancelled, with a potential new proposal in the works.
