Background on Project

Guiyang Energy Group has proposed a coal-fired power station of two 660 MW supercritical units for Hezhang County.[1] It was seeking environmental clearance in 2014.[2]

The project remained in limbo until 2019, when it was revived as a "national demonstration project" for burning high sulphur anthracite coal. One unit will be built first, with construction of the second unit dependent on the success of the first unit. The pre-feasibility study was approved in February 2019.[3]

Unit 1 was permitted in August 2019.[4] Unit 2 was permitted in December 2019.[5]

Construction began in October 2020.[6]
