Background 西气东输三线工程干线全线分为三段，西段（霍尔果斯－中卫）长2445km，设计压力12 MPa，管径1219mm，设计输气能力300×108m3/a；中段（中卫－枣阳－吉安）长2016km，设计压力12/10MPa，管径1219mm，设计输气能力300/250×108m3/a；东段（吉安－福州）长817km，设计压力10MPa，管径1219mm/1016mm，设计输气能力150×108m3/a。
The West-East Gas Pipeline 3 is being constructed in three sections: East, Middle, and West. The East and West Sections are currently operational, and construction on the Middle Section began in September 2021.
Construction of West-East Gas Pipeline 3 started in October 2012. The pipeline runs from Horgos in western Xinjiang to Fuzhou in Fujian.[3]
The overall pipeline is composed of a west, middle, and east section, including eight major branches and some facilities like an LNG terminal, as well as three storage tanks. The pipeline was estimated to cost RMB 142.2 billion (about US$21.55 billion).
The west section was completed in August 2014[4] West-East Gas Pipeline 2 . The east section that runs from Ji'an City in Jiangxi Province to Fuzhou City in Fujian Province was completed in December 2016.[5]
The pipeline has a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year of natural gas with operating pressure of 10–12 megapascal.[6] Central Asia–China Gas Pipeline 's Line C, supplemented by supplies from the Tarim basin and coalbed methane in Xinjiang.[7]
In September 2021, construction began on the middle section.[8]

Five branches were proposed on Middle Section. However, only two branches were completed and went operating. Zhuzhou-Chenzhou Branch, Dengzhou Branch and Xinye Branch were cancelled. [13]
变更后的西气东输三线中段（中卫－吉安）干线工程起自宁夏回族自治区中卫联络压气站（含），途经宁夏回族自治区中卫市、吴忠市、固原市，甘肃省庆阳市、平凉市，陕西省宝鸡市、咸阳市、渭南市、西安市、商洛市，河南省南阳市，湖北省襄阳市、随州市、荆门市、天门市、仙桃市、荆州市，湖南省岳阳市、长沙市、株洲市，江西省萍乡市、吉安市等7省（自治区）22市，止于江西省吉安联络站（不含）。工程全长2136公里（宁夏301.6公里、甘肃157.3公里、陕西515公里、河南232.1公里、湖北427.3公里、湖南335.8公里、江西166.9公里），设计管径1219毫米、压力10兆帕、输送能力250亿立方米/年。新建站场15座，与西气东输二线工程合建站场5座，新建监控阀室105座，依托现有5处维抢修机构，设置114处隧道弃渣场。采用沟埋敷设方式，埋深一般不小于1.2米。新建和改扩建施工便道311.52公里和221.6公里，新建和维修伴行道路21.23公里和24.09公里。

本项目西气东输三线长沙支线工程属于中段（中卫-吉安）中的一条支线，为实现长沙支线近期用气目标，就近从忠武线潜江-湘潭支线开孔接气，经0.448km连接线管道接引到现西三线中段干线安沙站站址处，再向长沙支线下游输气，经安沙镇、北山镇、桥驿镇、铜官街道、高塘岭街道到达望城末站。远期西三线中段干线建成后，正常接入西三线气源，经干线安沙站过滤调压后去往长沙支线分输支路，输送至望城末站。 主要建设内容包括连接线管道、长沙支线管道、2 座工艺站场（望城末站与长沙-益阳望城首站合建）和 2 座阀室。其中，连接线管道长0.448km、长沙支线管道长 45.652km，输气管道管径Φ508mm、设计输气规模为30×10 8 Nm3 /a、全线设计压力 6.3MPa；沿途有 G107、北山大道、S201、S102、武广高铁、京广铁路穿越等控制性工程。[22]
