Background
The pipeline was proposed in May 2022.[1]
In July 2023, the state of Massachusetts rejected Eversource's rationale for building the pipeline in an environmental review. The decision required a more thorough analysis of the project's broader impacts on state climate goals and local communities.[3] This came after local opposition to the project.[4]
Opposition
In July 2023, the State Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs (SSEEA) asked Eversource to re-visit the environmental impact report for its Springfield to Longmeadow gas pipeline. The SSEEA office said Eversource’s Draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed pipeline does not comply with the state Environmental Policy Act and its regulations.[5]
Local activists have also reported concerns regarding the route of the pipeline.[5]
