Whinstone Bitcoin mining facility

Background

As of May 2022, the Whinstone Bitcoin Mining Facility is likely the largest Bitcoin mining facility in North America and is owned by Riot Blockchain. It has a current capacity of 400 megawatts (MW) and construction is underway to expand to its full planned capacity of 750 MW, with completion expected for summer 2022. Construction began on the facility in November 2020. The site will ultimately boast 240,000 acres of floor space and will utilize immersion cooled Bitcoin mining machines. While currently believed to be the largest Bitcoin mining facility in North America, upon completion it is expected to be the largest single Bitcoin mining facility in the world. It is located in Rockdale, Texas, USA.
