Background

According to the "National Coastal and Inland River LNG Terminal Layout Plan (2035)" compiled by the Ministry of Transport, 5 inland river LNG terminals will be developed along the Yangtze River. Jiujiang LNG Terminal is one of them.

In June 2019, it was reported that the ministry of transportation plan to build five inner river LNG terminals along Yangtze River. The proposed terminals are in Jiangyin (Jiangsu), Wuhu (Anhui), Jiujiang (Jiangxi),Wuhan (Hubei), and Yueyang (Hunan).

In January 2020, the Gasification of the Yangtze River project plan called for the construction of a LNG import terminal near Wuhan by 2035.The total capacity will be 1.86 mtpa.

No further action could be found by the end of 2022. The project is presumedly shelved.

An analysis in November 2022 indicated that Wuhan LNG terminal was under construction. But there is no other evidence supporting it.

In February 2023, Wuhan Municipality issued the 14th Five Year Plan on Water Transportation. In the plan, the municipality propose to develop Wuhan LNG terminal, indicating that the proposal of the Wuhan inner river LNG terminal project is still alive.

As of June 2025, no further news about Wuhan LNG project. It's considered shelved.
