Background

Xiamen Songyu power station is a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,200 MW. The plant was completed between 1996 and 2006,[3] and is owned by SDIC.[4]

In April 2020, construction of a new 600 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired unit at the plant was released for bidding.[5]

The new 600 MW unit, equivalent capacity replacement of unit 1 and 2, was permitted on December 21, 2021.[6] The construction ceremony was held on 17 November 2022[7] but the first pot of concrete was only poured into the main structure at the end of August 2023.[8][9]
