Background

On 24 August, 2011, Xindia Steels Limited announced its plan to set up a steel plant in Koppal district of Karnataka, India. Xindia Steels Limited is promoted by two Chinese state-owned entities — Xinxing Cathay International Group  and China Minmetals Group, and Indian promoters - Kelchandra Group and Manasara Group. Xindia Steels plan to have a 5 mtpa facility at the location in three phases:[1]

  • Phase I: 0.8 million ton Pellet Plant + Tianjin DI pipe plant
  • Phase II: 2.5 mtpa Integrated Iron & Steel plant + cement plant
  • Phase III: 5 mtpa Steel Plant + 250 MW power + 6 million ton pellet plant[2]
