Background

The two existing coal-fired units of Xinxiang Yuxin power station, units 7-8 totaling 660 MW, were brought online in 2006. The plant was originally owned by CPI.[1]

The plant's first six units have been retired. Units 5-6, totaling 400 MW, were brought online in 1995 and bought by Henan Investment Group. They were retired in 2012.[2][3]

Expansion

CPI is planning to build two additional coal-fired units, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. It was considering several locations, including expanding the existing Xinxiang Yuxin power station, but decided on new plants at the retired Jiaozuo Danhe power station in the city of Qinyang.[4] The expansion in Xinxiang can therefore be considered cancelled.

Ownership

In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[5]
