Background

Yiyang power station was originally a four-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 1,920 MW. The plant was completed between 2000 and 2008, and is majority-owned by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group.[1][2]

Expansion

In July 2019, it was reported that a 2 x 1,000 MW expansion at the power station was planned and included in the "14th Five-Year Plan for Electric Power Development" of Hunan Province (2021-2025). Pre-feasibility studies were underway.[3]

According to a job announcement, the units were permitted on December 30, 2021.[4]

Construction reportedly began on July 25, 2022.[5]
