Network Background

On July 28, 2013, Sino-Myanmar Gas Pipeline began operating. [1]Yunnan is the first receiving province along the pipeline. Based on the gas supply through Sino-Myanmar gas pipeline and a small amount of local shale gas, Yunnan province began its gas pipeline network build-up in 2012.[2] By 2016, 6 gas pipelines have been completed. Three years later, 28 gas pipelines completed. The total mileage reached 2634 kilometers. [3]

截至2019年，已建成天然气干支线管道28条，总里程达2634公里。全省天然气消费量从2016年的7.4亿方增长至2019年的18.79亿方，其中缅气从2016年的1.32亿方增长至2019年的10.35亿方，增长近7倍。2019年全省天然气消费量18.79亿方，同比增长21.6%，其中缅气10.35亿方，同比增长17.61%。[3]

In February 2021, Yunnan province issued its 14th Five-Year Plan, in which it set a goal of 5000 kilometers gas pipeline by 2025. [5] A map of the major energy projects including gas pipelines is also attached.

The province tries to diversify its gas source. In 2021, a gas pipeline from Guangxi to Yunnan (Baise-Wenshan gas pipeline (百色—文山）was proposed. It will bring gas from converted LNG to Yunnan.[6]

The pipeline was proposed in 2016, permitted in 2017, and was slated to become operational in 2018.[21] However, by March 2021 the construction had not yet begun, owing to financial difficulties of the sponsor company.[22] The pipeline was mentioned most recently in the Yunnan Province 14th Five-Year Plan.[18]
