Background

This pipeline is expected to carry a blend of hydrogen and natural gas as supplies become available.[5] Fluxys report that the pipeline will increase offtake capacity at the Zeebrugge terminal by 20GWh/h. The total investment amount for both segments of the project is expected to be €300 million[6]. Phase 1 of the project was completed in 2024 and is operational. It runs parallel to an existing pipeline between Desteldonk and Opwijk. In 2025 preparatory contruction work began on Phase 2. Fluxys announced that they expected the first segment of phase 2 between Knokke-Heist and Evergem would be completed in 2026. The second section of phase 2 will run from Zeebrugge to Knokke-Heist, they announced that this would be completed by 2031.[3]
