Algerian Qatari Steel Jijel plant (الجزائرية القطرية للصلب (Arabic)), also known as AQS, is a 2200 thousand tonnes per annum (TTPA) direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in El-Milia, Jijel, Algeria.

Background

The Algerian Qatari Steel Jijel plant started operating in 2017 with DRI and EAF capacity.[2] In February 2022, representatives from Qatar and Algeria signed an MOU to study steel investments and expand capacity at the plant by 1800ttpa to 4mtpa.[3] This expansion is expected to start in 2025.[4]
