Amirkabir Arak Steel plant (شرکت فولاد امیرکبیر خزر, شرکت ذوب آهن امیر کبیر اراک), also known as Amirkabir Khazar Steel, is a steel plant in Arak, Markazi, Iran that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) and direct reduced iron (DRI) technology.
The Amirkabir Arak Steel plant first opened in 2006 as a rolling mill, producing primarily different grades of rebar.[1]
In 2022, the company announced it would expand to primary iron and steel production, with three Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) units and a steelmaking Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). The three DRI units, each with a capacity of 150,000 tonnes per year, are planned as rotary kilns, unusual in Iran where most DRI is produced in larger shaft furnaces. The reason for the planned technology are to reduce the upfront investment costs, and to make use of lower-grade hematite instead of the magnetite required for shaft furnace DRI technology.[2]
As of 2026, the site in the Kheyr Abad industrial zone showed no signs of additional construction.[3]
