Ann Joo Integrated Steel Penang plant, also known as AJIS plant, is a steel plant in Prai, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) and blast furnace (BF) technology.

Background

Ann Joo Integrated Steel Sdn Bhd was incorporated in 2007 and the construction of the blast furnace was completed in 2011, which made the plant the first and only hybrid combination of blast furnace and electric arc furnace.[1][2] An explosion took place in Oct 2020 at the smelting furnace section of Ann Joo Steel factory, causing 6 workers injured and of whom 2 sustained 30% burns on their bodies[3].
