ArcelorMittal Differdange steel plant is a steel plant in Differdange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Differdange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg:
- Location: 51 Rue Emile Mark, 4620 Differdange, Luxembourg
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 49.527966, 5.900398 (exact)
Background
Steel production at the Differdange site dates back to 1900, when the “Société Anonyme des Hauts-Fourneaux de Differdange” was established with blast furnaces and a Bessemer steel mill. In 1903 the works were bought by Hugo Stinnes forming “Deutsch-Luxemburgische Bergwerks- und Hütten-AG”. in the 1960s an oxygen converter and new blast furnace installed. In 1967 the company was merged with ARBED, and in 2002, the merger of ARBED, USINOR and ACERALIA created the Arcelor brand, which became ArcelorMittal in 2006.[1] The company has committed and estimated €18 million to installing new equipment between 2024 and 2026 to improve environmental footprint and reduce emissions, with the goal to reduce dust emissions by 80% by 2026.[2][3]
