ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Kendrapara plant is a steel plant in Kendrapara, Mahakalapada, Odisha, India that operates basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and blast furnace (BF) technology.

Background
On 17 December, 2021, Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India announced its proposal to set up a 24 MTPA integrated steel plant in Mahakalapada block in Kendrapara district against an investment of Rs 1.02 lakh crore. The project is expected to be completed in a phased manner over seven years, expected to be operational by 2028.[1][2][3] The facility is also expected to produce 18.75 mtpa of cement.[4] As of May 2022, the company was awaiting forest and environment clearances.[5]
In April 2023, the villagers opposed the soil testing work at the site amid apprehensions of environmental degradation.[6] In September 2023, Odisha locals protested against granting land for the proposed plant and seeking rights to the land for which they have been paying rent since 1976.[7]
As of July 2024, land acquisition is in progress for the project.[8] The project is expected to be completed in seven years in phases.[9]
As of December 2024, the construction of a road for the plant was being carried out, a DPR was being prepared for the railway line and work was started to provide electricity within 18 months.[10]
In May 2025, the verification work for acquiring the land for the proposed steel plant in the seaside Badatubi village under Mahakalapada block had started and the acquisition of 383 acres of land was progressing.[11]
AMNS is planning to establish three new blast furnaces at Kendrapara with a total capacity of 14 Mtpa.[12]
