Background
BISM (Bina Insan Sukses Mandiri) Coal Mine is a surface coal mine operated by PT Bina Insan Sukses Mandiri, located in Linggang Marimun, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
On January 20, 2022, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) lifted a coal export ban for 139 coal companies found to have met 100 percent or more of their Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) — a requirement for coal producers to allocate a portion of production to Indonesia's domestic power sector.[9] PT Bina Insan Sukses Mandiri was included on this list (company No. 61), confirming the mine was in active production and had met its domestic supply obligations as of that date.[9]
