Background
BMB Block 2 (Binuang Mitra Bersama Blok Dua) Coal Mine is a surface coal mine operated by PT Binuang Mitra Bersama, located in Tapin Regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.[8] According to the company, it was registered in 2013 and describes itself as one of the largest coal mining companies in South Kalimantan.[8]
The company states it received an Export Registered Coal (ET) recommendation from Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, effective October 7, 2014, under mining business license (IUP OP) No. 1736/30/DJB/2014 dated October 3, 2014.[8]
On January 20, 2022, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) lifted a coal export ban for 139 coal companies found to have met 100 percent or more of their Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) — a requirement for coal producers to allocate a portion of production to Indonesia's domestic power sector.[9] PT Binuang Mitra Bersama Blok Dua was included on this list (company No. 62), confirming the mine was in active production and had met its domestic supply obligations as of that date.[9]
