Background

As of August 2021, public opinion was being sought during the environmental impact assessment of the pipeline.[3]

On October 25, 2021, the Baotou-Linhe gas pipeline project of the Western Natural Gas Company was officially approved by the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.[2]

In 2023, the project has completed its preliminary preparation stage and is ready for construction. The construction will start officially once the bidding process is finished. This project will be the first gas pipeline that can transport hydrogen in China.[5] According to the company, the percentage of hydrogen blended in the pipeline is 10%.[6]

As of March 10, 2023, the pipeline is the first domestic high-pressure long-distance natural gas pipeline mixed with green renewable energy --- green hydrogen production in China.[4]
