Background

Bogovina Coal Mine is an underground mine near Bogovina, Boljevac district, Serbia.

The mine is operated by the Public Company for Underground Coal Mining Resavica, which was established as per the government's decision in 2003. It is a state-owned entity.

Bogovina had its highest production in the period 1970-1982, when it regularly produced over 0.2 million tonnes of coal per year.

The mine produced 0.01 million tonnes in 2017.

It was anticipated that the mine will be closed first by 2017 and then by the end of 2018. However it appeared that the mine was still operational in 2020 as one miner was reported dead following an accident in November 2020. A study from 2022 referred to the mine's production of 0.01-0.03 Mtpa on average from the Bogovina-Iztok section. A report from March 2023 suggested that the mine is still active.
