Background
The Borneo Indobara (BIB) coal mine is an opencast mine, operated by PT Boneo Indobara, a subsidiary of Golden Energy Mines, in Kusan Hulu, Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.[10] As of 2016, PT Borneo Indobara, a subsidiary of Golden Energy Mines, operates the coal mine.
PT Borneo Indobara holds its concession under a Coal Contract of Work (CCOW) covering 24,100 hectares.[11]
As of the end of 2025, GEMS reported its total mining areas across all five concessions — spanning South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Jambi, and South and West Sumatra — at 66,204 hectares, with total potential reserves of 0.84 billion tons.[11]
On January 20, 2022, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) lifted a coal export ban for 139 coal companies found to have met 100 percent or more of their Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) — a requirement for coal producers to allocate a portion of production to Indonesia's domestic power sector.[12] PT Borneo Indobara was included on this list (company No. 63), confirming the mine was in active production and had met its domestic supply obligations as of that date.[12]
